The A&M-Commerce soccer team scored two first half goals in its Lone Star Conference opener over visiting Angelo State, 2-0.

The Lions controlled the tempo for most of the game and out shot the Rambelles 16-12 for the contest. The 16 shots, nine of which were on goal, were both season highs for the Lions. "It was definitely the best game we've played all year," said head coach Neil Piper.

A&M-Commerce (3-4-1, 1-0 LSC) got on the board when sophomore Jessica Pierce notched her first goal of the season by heading in a senior Celia Cross corner kick in the 32nd minute.

Junior Melissa DoRemus, the Lions leading returner scorer from last season, also scored her first goal of the season by netting a cross from senior Tia Rew right before halftime in the 45th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Amber Ramoz logged five saves in recording the third shutout of the season and the 15th of her career. The defeat for Angelo State drops the Rambelles to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
