Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletic Director Carlton Cooper announced on Wednesday the hiring of Warren Young as the new Director of Sports Medicine. For the last 11 years, Young has demonstrated an increase in knowledge and responsibility in sports medicine. He has served as the Assistant Football Athletic Trainer and Director of Undergraduate Student Athletic Trainer program at Southern Methodist University in Dallas for the last five years. While with the football team, he has supervised and assigned duties for two assistant athletic trainers, two graduate assistants and 20 student assistants. He was also involved with the coordination of all athletic training supplies for practices and games. Before working with the football team, he served as the head track and field and cross country athletic trainer, where he worked with six Olympians, three NCAA champions and 26 All-Americans. "We are very excited to have Warren become a member of our staff. He is an example of our commitment to excellence. He will guide us in many ways as we strive to be a nationally recognized program. We not only have found a great trainer, but also a great person," said Cooper. "I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Warren Young over these last few years. He was a great asset to me and our staff, and is one of the most loyal and hardworking individuals that I have met in my professional career. Warren sincerely cares about the student-athlete and takes great pride in his work. He will be missed, and we are excited for Warren that he will be able to advance his career at Texas A&M-Commerce," said Mike Morton, Director of Sports Medicine at Southern Methodist University. Young has also been involved with student athletic trainers as well as sports coverage, including track and field and cross country. In addition to his intercollegiate experience, he has worked as an assistant athletic trainer for a Major League Soccer team and a National Football League team. Both of these experiences enabled him to work with professional athletes and the services for these year-round participants. Away from work, he has been actively involved with the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, Jesuit College Preparatory School and Ryan Gibson Foundation for Leukemia Advocacy. Young is engaged to Annie Taszarek. |
