Two Lions Shoot Under Par in Final Round of NCAA South Central Regional

Texas A&M University-Commerce sophomore Blake Worden and freshman Brian Pearce both shot under par in Wednesday's final of the NCAA South Central Regional in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Despite the strong performances by Worden and Pearce, the Lions finished in eighth place with a three-day, 54-hole total of 931 (312-322-297). Fellow Lone Star Conference member Cameron took team title honors with an eight-over par 872 (301-288-283) to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Worden, a sophomore from Rowlett, shot a four-under par 68 for the second lowest round on the day to close out the tournament at six-over par 222 (76-78-68) to tie for 11th place overall with KC Lim of St. Mary's and Blake Slaughter of St. Edward's. Worden, a two-time all-Lone Star Conference selection, recorded six birdies in the final round, including four of the last five holes. Mitch Boles of Central Oklahoma earned medalist honors with a seven-under 209 (68-72-69) for a one-stroke victory over Hugues Joannes of Abilene Christian, who shot a 210 (73-71-66).

Pearce, a freshman from Wylie, shot a 70 and 54-hole total of 230 (78-82-70). Senior Andy Carter also posted his best round of the tournament with a 77 on the final day for a 239 (80-82-77). Freshman Chase Johnson closed out the tournament with a final round 82 and three-day total of 240 (78-80-82). Sophomore Pinkey Hartline wrapped up the week with his best round of the tournament, posting an 83 for a 54-hole total of 255 (88-84-83) for the tournament.
