Senior Andy Carter recorded a two-round score of 142 (74-68) to finish the first day of the Lone Star Conference Men's Golf Championship in a two-way tie for fourth place at the Hyatt Bear Creek East Golf Course in Irving, Texas.
Carter's second round score of 68 was the second lowest round of his career and was the third lowest score recorded through the first two rounds of play.
Texas A&M University-Commerce currently sits alone in fourth place overall after posting a two-round team total of 595 (299-296). Defending tournament champion Northeastern State leads the field after recording an opening day score of 571 (285-286), while Central Oklahoma finished the first two rounds with a score of 583 (295-288) and Abilene Christian carded a team total of 590 (296-294) to round out the top-three.
Central Oklahoma's Mitch Boles, who was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year on Sunday, is tied atop the leaderboard with Northeastern State's Kevin King. Each golfer fired a score of 138 to finish the first two rounds at six-under-par.
A&M-Commerce sophomore Blake Worden, who was recently named to the all-Lone Star Conference first team, carded a two-round score of 145 (71-74) to finish the first 36 holes in a three-way tie for seventh place.
Freshman Chase Johnson and sophomore Pinkey Hartline each recorded two-round scores of 144 (77-77) to finish the first day in a tie for 33rd place.
Freshman Brian Pearce carded a 36-hole score of 158 (80-77) to finish in a tie for 38th place overall.
The Lions are scheduled to tee-off at 8:56 a.m. in the final round of the Lone Star Conference Men's Golf Championship.
