The Texas A&M-Commerce finished fifth out of 12 teams at the WTAMU Men's Invitational at La Paloma Golf Club on Tuesday. Freshman Chase Johnson wrapped up the best tournament to date of his young career, tying for 10th place along with Spud Dillingham of West Texas A&M. It is his first top-ten finish and third top-20 finish in his initial season with the Lions.

As a team, the Lions shot a 935 (302-308-325) for fifth-place honors. With a tournament-best 47 birdies and a 14-stroke advantage on par 4 holes, Western New Mexico took the tournament title with an 888 (292-296-300) for an eight-stroke advantage over host West Texas A&M, who posted an 896 (294-296-306). Kent Neal of West Texas A&M won the individual title with a 54-hole, two-day total of 218 (71-69-78) and five-over par.

Freshman Brian Pearce tied for 24th with a 236 (77-75-84) and sophomore Blake Worden tied for 30th with a 238 (75-79-84). Seniors Ryan Jaco and Andy Carter shot a 240 (76-78-86) and 242 (76-86-80), respectively to round out the A&M-Commerce lineup.

The Lions will next travel to the Lone Star Conference Championships, beginning on Monday, April 16th at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Irving, Texas.
