The Game Facts:
This is the seventh meeting between Texas A&M University-Commerce and Pittsburg State. The two teams were familiar foes during the 1990's, meeting six times during that decade. Despite a 5-1 series advantage held by Pitt State, the Lions lone win against the Gorillas came on Sept. 14, 1991, halting Pitt State's 56-game regular season winning streak. Later that season, the two teams met up again as the Gorillas went on to defeat the Lions, 38-28, in the national quarterfinals en route to capturing the 1991 NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Coaches:
Texas A&M-Commerce
Scotty Conley is in his fourth season at Texas A&M-Commerce and owns a 14-16 overall record with the Lions. Prior to guiding the Lions, he was an assistant coach at many of the nation's top programs (United States Naval Academy (2000-02), Arkansas (1990-92), Rice (1989), Tennessee (1988), Kansas (1987), Texas (1982-86) and Texas A&M (1980-81). From 1996-1999, Conley was the head coach at Trinity Valley Community College, where in his second season he went from 4-6 in year one to 12-0 and national champions.

Pittsburg State: Chuck Broyles is in his 17th season as the head coach at Pittsburg State with a career record of 174-36-2. Broyles, a 1970 graduate of Pittsburg State, has been successful as both a coach and also as the athletic director. He is the second winningest active coach in NCAA Division II and has coached 63 All-Americans.

History Lesson:
Saturday's game marks the start of the 89th season that Texas A&M University-Commerce has fielded a football team. The first squad took to the field in 1914, where they played its first two games against the local high school team before playing its first intercollegiate contest against Wesley College, a defunct Methodist College in nearby Greenville. On the first team was the son of the founder of the University - Marion Mayo. After initial disapproval by the President, his wife, Etta played an integral role into the enhancement and eventual development of a more complete program. She also played a critical role in the development of the addition of basketball, tennis and baseball to the athletic program.
