Playing in its first game in 14 days, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team posted a 66-60 win over the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas.

A&M-Commerce (4-6) retaliated from an 11-0 run early in the second half by the Chargers. The run by UAH put the Chargers in front by seven, 34-27, with 16:51 left in the contest; however, the Lions clawed back into the game as the two teams exchanged baskets and brief leads for the remainder of the contest.

A&M-Commerce senior Scooby Johnson converted on a three-point play with 2:38 left in the game put the Lions in front for the remainder of the contest with a 57-56 advantage.

The Lions extended its lead when senior Kevin Widemond hit his fourth three pointer of the game to put the ahead by five, 62-56, with 27 seconds remaining.

Johnson paced three Lions in double digits with a team-high and game-high 18 points and nine rebounds - including six offensive rebounds. Widemond added 16 and senior Derrick Darkis scored 10 off the bench. Junior Rashad Brown, also off the bench, grabbed a game-high and career-high 13 rebounds and scored six points.

Alabama-Huntsville (4-5) also had three players in double figures, including a team-high 15 from Kael Coleman. He was joined by Jordan Brewer and Casey Stafford, who added 12 and 11, respectively.

Next, the Lions will play St. Edward's on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of the St. Edward's Holiday Tournament. The host Hilltoppers advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional in 2006-07 and is currently 5-3 on the season. The game can be heard live on KETR (88.9 FM) and www.ketr.org.
