Lions Dominate Texas College 92-67

Senior forward Bobby Joshua scored 16 points and ripped down 10 rebounds to record the first double-double of his career as the Texas A&M-Commerce men's basketball team handed Texas College a 92-67 defeat at the A&M-Commerce Field House on Tuesday.

Six players managed double-figure scoring efforts as the Lions shot an even 50% from the floor. Senior guard Lamar Searight and junior forward Archie Beason each recorded 18 points to lead the Lions offensive attack. Searight also dished out a game-high seven assists and pulled down five boards. Junior guard Kevin Widemond, junior forward Champ Sylvester, and junior forward Donnell Franklyn all added 10 points apiece to lead a balanced scoring attack.

A&M-Commerce (3-1) dominated the glass by finishing the contest with 47 rebounds to the Steers' 33. The Lions also made 14-of-18 (77.8%) free throws and committed a season-low six turnovers in the victory.

Texas College's (1-2) Mike Dale led all scorers with 33 points on 13-of-26 (50%) shooting from the field. Dale also connected on 5-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Rian Powell finished the contest with 13 points and sophomore guard Czyz Bennet managed 12 points.

The Lions opened the contest on a 7-0 run, fueled by a Searight three-pointer to open the game, and never looked back. A&M-Commerce led by as many as 23 in the first half and took a 52-33 lead into the locker room. The Lions outscored the Steers 24-6 in the paint and the A&M-Commerce bench outscored Texas College's 18-2 in the first 20 minutes of play.

Searight and Joshua each scored 12 points in the first half to give the Lions the aforementioned halftime advantage. For the Steers' Dale netted 15 points, while Bennet scored nine.

The Lions opened the second half on the strength of a 12-0 run to expand their lead to 31-points, their largest of the contest, at 64-33. A&M-Commerce connected on 16-of-34 (47.1%) field goals and held the Steers to 11-of-30 (36.7%) shooting from the field in the second half.

Beason shot 4-of-7 (57%) from the floor in the second half and recorded a team-high 13 points. Dale led all second half scorers with 18 points on 7-of-15 (47%) shooting.

A&M-Commerce outscored Texas College 28-12 in the paint and scored 17 points off of 12 Steer turnovers in the second half of play.

The Lions travel to San Antonio over the Thanksgiving break to participate in the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. A&M-Commerce opens play on Friday as they face Paul Quinn at 5 p.m.
