LIONS BEAT DROVERS 71-69 TO TAKE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

STEPHENVILLE,TX - Jermart Miller scored 19 points in the first game of the Texan Tip-Off Classic to give the Lions(1-0,0-0) a 71-69 win against University of Science and Arts. It was the the first time that A&M-Commerce ever faced USAO in school history. Miller came back in the second half to score 11 points and lead the Lions to their first win of the season.

The Lions went up with just .5 seconds remaining in the first half, when Chris Fantroy inbounded the ball to Jason Rabb to put the Lions up by three points at the half 36-33.

In a game that was close throughout the entire contest, the Lions allowed a 10 point lead on them, but turned it around going on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 60 with 6:03 left on the clock on a jumper by Miller.

The Drovers came within one on the Lions when Avery Stevenson scored a three pointer with 1:36 left in the game to bring the score 70-69. But the Lions held on and kept the Drovers from scoring after Lamar Searight scored a free throw to put A&M-Commerce up by two. The free throw was taken, after Searight forced a turnover on the Drovers to give the Lions possession with 4 seconds left to seal the victory.

A&M-Commerce now stands with a 5-0 record while playing at the Tarleton Tip-Off under head coach Sam Walker.

Up next at the Classic is a 5 p.m. match against Howard Payne University. The Yellow Jackets lead the series 42-39.
