LIONS LOSE A HEARTBREAKER
Jan. 21, 2006
COMMERCE, Texas - In another down to the wire game, A&M-Commerce fought to the very end as they continued in North Division play, falling to Northeastern Okla. 59-56. With lead changes flip-flopping the entire game, the Lions found themselves against the clock towards the end, as NSU's, Pat Moore laid the ball in with seven seconds left to take a one point lead over A&M-C. After being down 31-27 at the half, things started shifting towards the Lions favor. Junior transfer Martel Jones connected behind the arc with 7:27 remaining to give A&M-Commerce a 46-45 edge. The Lions would maintain the lead the rest of the way, until Moore's shot with the seven ticks left. As time wound down, a foul was called on Senior Jermart Miller with .02 seconds left, which gave NSU the advantage as they made two behind the charity stripe to seal the win. Two Lions scored in double figures for the afternoon. Kevin Walker led all scorers with 12 points, while Chris Fantroy tallied 11. Scoring leaders Jermart Miller and Lamar Searight were both held to single digits with nine (Miller) and eight (Searight) points a piece. NSU's Pat Moore led the Redmen with 14 points and high scorer Sid Melvin brought in 13.
The Lions will continue league play at home as they host East Central Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets are still available. For tickets call the A&M-Commerce Athletic Department at (903) 886-5558. +++A&M-C+++
