Taylor runs season best in final race

May 28, 2006

EMPORIA, Kan. - Sprinter Delrick Taylor topped a season best performance placing eighth at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the 100-meter dash Saturday afternoon.

The six-time All-America senior dashed in a 10.47 time, to beat a season best after a 10.51 performance 21 days ago at the UTA Open in Arlingon, Texas.

Taylor ended his career as a Lion with seven All-America titles under his belt, and the top time for A&M-C in the 100-meter dash. Taking the event overall was Kendall Stevens of Findlay with a 10.17 time.

Also participating in the final events on Saturday, was discus thrower Larry Gilbert. Gilbert ended the day in the discus placing 16th overall and eighth in his flight, with a 43.60 m (143-0) toss.

The 2006 season marked as the fourth straight year that head coach Pat Ponder had two or more athletes make the NCAA Outdoor meet and also the fourth straight time that one or more took home an All-America honors.
