The Southwestern University women's soccer team used a strong second-half to tie the Rhodes Lynx 2-2 on Sunday (Sept. 24). Rhodes dominated the first half, putting five shots on the Southwestern goal. Katy Buckner scored the first during the 19th minute to put RC up 1-0. Caroline Voelkel added another goal at 43:30 with an assist from Lauren Boyer for a 2-0 lead. The Pirates came out fired up in the second period as first-year A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) scored the first goal of her SU career during the 56th minute. Just over seven minutes later, Andreola drilled another to the back of the net to tie the game at two with her second goal of the game. In the overtime periods, Southwestern had multiple close shots as the Pirates out-shot the Lynx four to one. Overall, SU out-shot Rhodes 15 to nine and Rhodes held an eight to three advantage in corner kicks. Pirate goalie Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley, HS) stopped four shots while Becca Clarin had seven saves for the Lynx. SU takes the field again on Tuesday (Sept. 26) in Dallas, TX when they face off against the University of Texas-Dallas at 4:00 p.m. SU Sports Information |
