On Friday (Sept. 7) afternoon in Georgetown, TX the Southwestern University women's soccer team lost a 2-1 decision to the University of Texas-Dallas Comets. In the first period, the Pirates out-shot UTD 5-4 with three of SU's shots being on goal. First-year Chrissy Vasquez (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) scored the first goal of her collegiate career with 13:00 left on the clock as she beat the goalkeeper and poked in the goal on an open net to make the score 1-0. Sophomore A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) narrowly missed a goal earlier in the half as she put one off the crossbar. Goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/ ) made a tremendous save while on the ground near the 22 minute mark. In the second half, it took the Comets just 3:25 to tie the game at one a piece. Later, at 67:36, Lauren Huffman put a header in goal off a corner kick from Emily George to give UTD a 2-1 advantage that the Pirates could not overcome in the final 20 minutes. The two teams were dead even in shots, attempting 10 each. UTD held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. The loss drops SU's season record to 1-2 while the Comets improve to 1-2. Southwestern's next game will be on Sunday (Sept. 9) in Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. as they host the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots.
