76 Point Outbreak Carries Pirates Past LaGrange

Four players scored in double-digits as the SU women's basketball team dominated the LaGrange College Panthers by a score of 76-49 on Friday (Nov. 23) at the Southwestern University/Austin College Classic in Georgetown, TX.

Southwestern used a 14-0 run to build a 16-2 lead at the 12:39 mark in the game and never led by less than 11 the rest of the way. Staley Mullins (Dallas, TX/Bishop Lynch HS) gave the Pirates their largest lead, 33-11, of the half with a jumper with 1:25 on the clock and SU took a 33-16 lead in to the half. SU built its lead throughout the second half with 27 being the team's biggest lead.

Junior Natasha Azizi (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch HS) scored a game-high 13 points along with eight assists, narrowly missing a double-double. She also had three steals, two assists and one block in just 20 minutes of play. Senior Kelli Hill (Plano, TX/Plano East HS) recorded 12 points, connecting on 5-10 shots from the field and 2-5 from three-point range.

Mullins finished with a career-high 10 points and three blocks. She leads the team with six blocks in three games. Beth Thomas (Houston, TX/Clear Lake HS) also had 10 points as well as four rebounds and two steals. All but two of the players who played in the game scored for the Pirates.

Southwestern shot 47.1 percent (32-68) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-11) in the game. The Pirates forced the Panthers in to 29 turnovers while committing just 14 in the game. Southwestern improves to 2-1 with the win thile LaGrange drops to 2-2.

The Pirates will take on the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots on Saturday (Nov. 24) at 3:00 pm.
