Box Score

Junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) scored a pair of goals as the Southwestern University men's soccer team defeated the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs on Friday (Sept. 28) in Georgetown, TX.

Lozano scored during the third minute of the game when he took the first shot of the game from left of the box to beat the keeper to the lower left corner, scoring his third goal of the season and giving SU the 1-0 lead. Later in the half, during the 37th minute, Scott Smith (Houston, TX/Jersey Village HS) scored his first goal of the year when he slid in the box to deflect a cross from first-year Alex Keller (Houston, TX/Langham Creek HS) to make the score 2-0.

In the second period, Keller got the scoring started with his first ever goal as a Pirate less than two and a half minutes in to the half with an assist from Lozano. Less than a minute later, Lozano scored with an assist from Keller to bring the score to 4-0 in Southwestern's favor. The Bulldogs managed to put the ball in the net at the 71:03 mark for the final score of 4-1.

The Pirates did not allow TLU to attempt a shot until the 62nd minute of the game. SU out-shot TLU 17-4 and put nine shots on goal compared to two for the Bulldogs. The Pirates also held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

Southwestern finished up its non-conference slate with a 5-4-1 record outside of SCAC play. The Pirates' overall record is 6-4-1 and 1-0-0 in the SCAC.

SU's next game will be Friday (Oct. 5) when the Pirates host Rhodes College at 4:00 p.m.
