The Southwestern University men's golf team sits in a tie for 10th place at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational being held in Atlanta, GA on Monday (Oct. 22). Sophomore Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) led the way for the Pirates with an opening round 75. He is seven strokes behind Oglethorpe's Hap Kaufold for first place. One stroke behind Jones and tied for 32nd with a 76 was first-year Ian Rice (Amarillo, TX/Amarillo HS). Fellow first-year Stephen Gehring (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) fired a 77 and is tied for 41st. Gehring most recently won the Alamo City Classic for his first ever collegiate win. Sophomore Connor McMindes (Hurst, TX/Abilene Christian University) recorded a 79 and is tied for 45th. In 58th place is first-year Tim Decker (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine HS) who finished round one with an 82. Host Oglethorpe is in first place with a 285 followed by Methodist University (286), Washington & Lee University (290) and Guilford College (292) with LaGrange College (293) rounding out the top five. The Pirate totaled 307 and are tied in 10th place with Central College. The final round is Tuesday (Oct. 23) in Atlanta.
