Men's Golf Places 12th in Temple at Spring Invitational

The Southwestern University men's golf team finished the first tournament of the spring season in 12th place on Tuesday (Feb. 27) in Temple, TX at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational.

Senior Christopher Paiz (Sugar Land, TX/Kinkaid HS) was the top-finisher for the Pirates, shooting a 159 (79-80) and tying for 21st. First-year Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) tied for 26th with a two-round tally of 160 (80-80).

Xan Erwin (Austin, TX/Westwood HS), a sophomore, fired a 165 (82-83) for a 43rd-place tie. Junior JK Harrison (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HS) finished in 71st place, shooting a 179 (91-88). Andy Lee (El Paso, TX/CSU-Northridge) and Tyler Russell (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair HS) both tied for 75th with totals of 182.

As a team, the Pirates shot a 663 (327-336) and finished one stroke behind UMHB's JV. The top-five included McMurry University (604), Mary Hardin-Baylor (612), the University of Texas at Brownsville (627), Texas Lutheran University (635) and Trinity University (640).

Southwestern takes nearly a month off before playing in the Golden Isle Invitational in Jeckyll Island, GA on Friday (Mar. 23).
