Women's Cross Country Takes Home Third, Men Place Fifth

The Southwestern University men's and women's cross country teams took third and fifth place, respectively, on Friday (Oct. 6) at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio, TX.

The Pirates' top finisher, Jessica Ratcliffe (Coppell, TX/Coppell HS), placed 10th place at the meet with a time of 25:19. Tami Warner (Dale, TX/Lockhart HS) crossed the finish-line second for SU for a time of 25:51 and 19th place. Senior Catherine Cunningham (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood HS) took 25th place and crossed the line in 26:41.

Rachel Petrofes (College Station, TX/St. Joseph School) was 27th, ending the race with a time of 26:50. Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS), Kelly Parmet (Bellaire, TX/Bellaire HS) and Mallory Bird (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) placed 33rd, 35th and 37th, respectively.

For the men, Jameson Otto (Carrollton, TX/Creekview HS) was the top finisher in seventh place. He finished the race in 27:35. Fellow senior Aaron Contreras (Brownsville, TX/St. Joseph's Academy) finished four spots behind Otto in 11th with a time of 28:28.

Evan Hochschild (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek HS) was the third finisher for the Pirates, crossing the line in 32:30, good for 44th place. Eric Sterner (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic Marianist HS) and Brian Schaefer (Spring, TX/Klein HS) finished within seconds of each other in 52nd and 53rd places.

The Pirate cross country teams run again on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Seguin, TX at the Texas Lutheran Invitational.
