The Southwestern University men's tennis team fell in Dallas, TX to the University of Texas - Dallas Comets 7-2 on Friday (Mar. 2) while the women's team earned a 9-0 victory.

The Pirate women won every match in straight-sets to improve their season record to 3-1. In doubles play, Mary Pennington (San Antonio, TX/Churchill HS) and Michelle Tompkins (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood HS) won the first flight (8-2). The second flight was won by Amy Somerford (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches HS) and Laura Evanoff (Breckenridge, TX/Breckenridge HS) (8-3) while a pair of first-years, Emily Gutzmer (Austin, TX/Anderson HS) and Allison Noblitt (Lake Jackson, TX/Brazoswood HS), won in the third spot (8-0).

Pennington won in the top spot (6-2, 6-1) while Evanoff took the second flight (6-1, 6-1). Somerford, in the third flight, won her match (6-4, 6-2) and Gutzmer was strong, winning 6-3, 6-3. First-year Jessica Bolton (Carrollton, TX/Hebron HS) improved to 2-0 on the year with a fifth flight win (6-2, 6-2) while Noblitt closed out the sweep in the sixth slot (6-1, 6-2).

UT-Dallas Men 7, Southwestern Men 2

The men's team picked up one point in doubles and one point in singles in the loss to the Comets. The duo of Ty Mitschke (Corpus Christi, TX/Gregory-Portland HS) and Sean Kissinger (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) won in the top spot (8-4). Jay Shroff (Midland, TX/Big Spring HS) and Nick Shum (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain HS) lost in the second flight (4-8) while Dan Otto (Austin, TX/St. Stephen's Episcopal HS) and Matt Morrow (Burkburnett, TX/Burkburnett HS) fell (6-8).

Kissinger won the Bucs' singles point, winning in the sixth flight (6-4, 6-2). Shroff took his first flight match to three sets but ultimately fell (6-1, 0-6, 0-6). Otto, Shum, Nick Parker (Wharton, TX/Wharton HS) and Morrow all lost their matches in two sets.
