Results

The Southwestern University men's and women's swimming teams had strong meet this past weekend at the University of Chicago Maroon Invitational with the women placing seventh and the men 10th.

Sophomore Alana Bergfield (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia/The Cranbrook School) notched a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 yd. IM and the 400 yd. IM. She recorded career-best times in both races. Bergfield also took third in the 200 yd. Breastroke with a career-best time of 2:33.83. Fellow sophomore Jessie Carrier (Victoria, TX/St. Joseph HS) had a career meet, recording unshaved lifetime-best times in every race. She took third in the 50 yd. Freestyle and finishing just .29 seconds behind Illinois Tech's Liz Wong. She also placed fifth in the 100 yd. Butterfly and sixth in the 100 yd Freestyle.

Lorena Saenz (San Antonio, TX/Alamo Heights HS) posted a pair of top-10 finishes while Allie Stevenson (Round Rock, TX/McNeil HS) and Jon LaRochelle (Angleton, TX/Milton Academy) had one top-10 finish each. Every SU swimmer recorded a season-best times at the meet.

The SU 200 yd. Medley relay team of Saenz, Bergfield, Stevenson and Carrier placed third with a time of 1:57.88 and the same group also finished fourth in the 400 yd. Medley Relay. Saenz, Carrier, Bergfield and Katie Stancil (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic HS) posted a time of 1:47.44 in the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay, good for seventh place. Bergfield, Carrier, Saenz and Stevenson placed eighth in the 800 yd. Freestyle Relay and the team of Stancil, Julianne Stafford (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS), Staci Rives (Houston, TX/Dobie HS) and Kristina Smith (Austin, TX/McMurry University) finished in 11th.

The Pirate swimmers will be competing next at the SCAC West Shootout in Dallas, TX on Saturday (Nov. 18).
