LADY BULLDOGS CLAIM THIRD STRAIGHT VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
AAMU’S Princess Dixson Named Tournament MVP

For the third straight year, the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs proved they had everything it took to reign supreme as volleyball champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Alabama A&M cruised through the 2002 tournament with an 11-1 conference record.

In the championship match, played at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium on the campus of Alabama A&M University, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Braves of Alcorn State in straight games (30-21,30-19,30-21). Alabama A&M’s Feah Williams had 12 kills and 10 digs in the championship match.

Princess Dixson, of AAMU was named Tournament MVP as she led the tournament in assists with a 14.62 assist/game avg.

Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, and Grambling State each had two players make the All- Tournament Team Other tournament leaders include: Alabama A&M’s Alex Brazelton (.469 hitting percentage); Alabama A&M’s Lutasha Bradley (1.62blocks/game and 0.85 service aces/game avg); Grambling State’s Latasha Smith (5.21kills/game avg.); and Grambling State’s Tiffany Smoke (3.50 digs/game avg.).

Alabama A&M will advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament on December 19-21,2002 in New Orleans, LA.
