Alabama A&M Hosts SWAC Volleyball Championship Tournament

Alabama A&M University will host the Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, November 14-15, 2003 at the T. M. Elmore Gymnasium in Normal, AL. The top four teams from the SWAC East and West divisions will face off in quarterfinal action, beginning Friday 11/14 at 9am, ending with the championship game scheduled Saturday 11/15 at 1:30 pm.

The Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M and the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M will enter as the number one teams from the Eastern and Western divisions, respectively. Other teams participating in the eight team tournament are: Alabama State (2nd East), Grambling State (2nd West) Alcorn State (3rd East), Texas Southern (3rd West), Jackson State or Mississippi Valley State(4th East) and Southern (4th West).

The SWAC Volleyball Championship weekend will begin Thursday November 13th, with an awards banquet honoring the players and announcing the 2003 All-SWAC Volleyball Team. Quarterfinal action begins Friday 11/14 with matches at 9am, 11 am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm. Semifinal action begins Saturday 11/15 with matches at 9am and 11am, and the championship game will begin at 1:30 pm.

The eight teams will also participate in the NCAA/SWAC Y.E.S. Clinic held 11/14 at 6:30 pm. at the T. M. Elmore Gymnasium. The Y.E.S. Clinic is open to girls ages 10-16 and admission to the clinic is free.

The Lady Bulldogs are the 3-time defending SWAC Volleyball Champions. The winner of the SWAC Volleyball Championship tournament receives an automatic bid to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.
