TaRahonda White, Southern
(Outside Hitter, 5-8, So., Baton Rouge, LA)
Averaged 3.50 digs, 0.50 digs, and 3.38 kills in four matches over the week.

Alabama A&M - The Lady Bulldogs currently sit with an overall mark of 2-5 on the 2005 season ... gained non-conference wins over Tennessee-Martin and Arkansas-Pine Bluff ... team ranks second in conference in blocks and third in aces ... led by freshman Brittani Lewis (2.71 k/g, 2.21 d/g, 0.5 b/g), freshman Kara Jerden (6.25 a/g, 1.80 d/g) and senior Alexandria Brazelton (2.88 k/g, 1.54 d/g, 0.5 b/g) ... getting strong defensive presence from Natasha Townsend (16 total blocks) and Tameeka Thompson (57 total digs) ... will play at University of Alabama and Auburn Challenge this week.

Alabama State - The Lady Hornets currently sit with a 2-5 record this season ... are spearheaded on the court by Janee Tranchina (7.89 a/g, 2.00 d/g, and 0.24 b/g), LaQuitta Daniels (2.95 k/g, 0.62 d/g, 0.62 b/g), and Cambreisha Bodney (2.62 k/g, 0.81 b/g) ... has wins over Alcorn State and Savannah State ... team ranks first in conference in assists and third in kills ... will host the 21st Lady Hornet Invitational this weekend.

Alcorn State - The Lady Braves under new coach Yolanda Brown have had an auspicious start to the 2005 season ... currently has an 0-5 record in 2005 ... had tough losses at Southeastern Louisiana and at Louisiana-Monroe ... Monique Blando leads the team averaging 1.67 kills per game ... Vivian Aubert serves as primary averaging 4.73 assists per game ... team averaging 11.00 digs each time out ... will host Southern before playing in the Hampton Inn Trojan Invitational.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff - Off to a slow start his season, the 0-6 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions are looking to get on the winning track soon ... saw tough action in the Memphis Invitational ... is led by Monique Carroll averaging 1.28 kills per game and 1.50 digs per game ... Latoya Steele-Chanay is averaging 1.17 kills and 0.94 digs per game ...will face Texas Southern and Tennessee State this week in volleyball action.

Grambling State - A title game participant last season, the Grambling State Lady Tigers play of of the tougher schedules in the conference ... led by preseason player of the year Lacey Cormier’ and Marquita Waties ... Cormier’ is averaging 2.89 kills and 0.67 digs per game ... Waties enters the week averaging 2.04 kills and 2.09 digs per game ... Talon Morgan is the primary setter averaging 3.65 assists and 2.00 digs per game ... Natasha Wilmore leads team with 14 service aces ... will face Louisiana Tech and participate in the Lady Panther Invitational this week.

Jackson State - The Lady Tigers are another program looking to make 2005 a memorable year ... team is 0-6 after two weeks of action ... lost tough matches versus Centenary and Austin Peay ... is led by preseason all-conference selections Verita White and Chin’yere Marner ... White is averaging 2.81 kills, 2.24 digs and 0.57 blocks per game ... Marner is among the conference leaders in blocks averaging 1.19 stuffs per game while averaging 1.57 kills per game ... Denetia Carline (5.29 a/g) and Corrina Cox (2.95 a/g and 2.38 d/g) are splitting time with the assists ... will see action at Southeastern Louisiana and in the Birmingham-Southern Tournament this week.

Mississippi Valley - The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State are patiently waiting on the depth of their schedule to come about ... are currently sitting with a 3-1 overall mark on the season ... have face conference institutions Prairie View and Texas Southern ... all-conference selections Shatara Baydak and Ashley Robinson are averaging 3.50 kills per game ... Jolene Brennan is the team’s primary setter averaging 5.19 assists per game ... team is averaging 13.81 kills and 15.31 digs per game ... will participate in the Lady Hornet Invitational this weekend.

Prairie View - The Lady Panthers currently have a 3-6 record in 2005 ... Shannon Harrison is among the conference leaders averaging 1.78 kills and 2.83 digs per game ... Crystal Stigler and Lindsey Taylor lead the team averaging 2.69 kills and 2.45 kills per game, respectively ... 2004 Newcomer of the Year Litiana Vakasausau is averaging 6.64 assists per game ... Sharla Cannon has 12 service aces on the season ... will host the Lady Panther Invitational this weekend.

Southern - The Southern University Jaguars currently have the second-best record in the conference with a 5-3 mark ... team is 1-0 in conference play with a win over Texas Southern ... TaRhonda White leads the team averaging 2.52 kills and 2.86 digs per game ... Krystal Young is consistent averaging 2.41 kills and 2.52 digs per outing ... Lakenya Simpson is averaging 8.78 assists per game ... will Alcorn State this week.

Texas Southern - The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University sit 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play with a five-set, road loss at Southern ... hosted TSU Season Opener first weekend in September ... team averaging 11.00 kills per game ... led by DeQuanda Smith (2.89 k/g & 2.43 d/g) and Shannon Holland (2.40 k/g & 0.55 b/g) ... Shawdae Wallace is averaging 5.55 assists and 1.85 digs per game ... will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff in doubleheader action and will participate in the Lady Panther Invitational.
