VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

September 9, 2003

Week One (August 25- Aug. 30, 2003)
Congratulations to Phylis Hetie (MB/OH, 5-10,Jr., Burkina-Faso, West Africa) of Alabama A&M.
Hetie had a total hitting average of .336 in the 2003 Hampton University Invitational held August 29-30, 2003.She also averaged 3.15 kills per game and 2.20 digs per game for the week.

Week Two (Aug. 31, -Sept. 06, 2003)
Congratulations to Brittney Ward (S, 5-7, So., Beaumont, TX) of Alcorn State. Ward led the Lady Braves in assists with a total of 72 against Alabama State and 76 against Alabama A&M. Ward also was named to the Comcast Lobo All- Tournament Team held Sept. 05-06, 2003 in New Mexico.

Other Notable Performances for weeks one and two:

(Week One)
• The Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M were the Tournament Champs in the inaugural Texas Southern Season Opener Volleyball Tournament held Aug. 29-30, 2003 in Houston, TX. Mary Reese received Tournament MVP honors, and Brandi Johnson received Defensive Specialist honors.

• The Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M defeated the Univ. of Maryland- Eastern Shores for the Championship Title at the 2003 Hampton University Invitational Aug. 29-30, 2003 in Hampton, VA.

• Tosin Fadeyi (OH/MB) of Alcorn State was named to the All- Tournament Team for her play at the Our Lady of Lourdes Sportscare Volleyball Classic hosted by the Univ. of Louisiana-Lafayette Aug. 29-30, 2003.

(Week Two):
• Verita White (OH) of Jackson State had 32 kills for the week, averaging 2.00 per game, and 12 digs and blocks for the week.

• Latasha Smith (OH) of Grambling State was named to both Texas Southern’s and
Centenary’s All- Tournament teams.
