2004 Division I Women's Tennis Championship:
MVSU Softball To Take On Defending National Champs, UCLA

May 16, 2004

Itta Bena, MS - Loud screams, yells, and cheers filled the Ashley Ambrose Lounge of the MVSU Devils Den Sunday night, as the Mississippi Valley State University Softball Squad were informed that they will face the Lady Bruins of UCLA in the 2004 NCAA Division I Softball Championship Regionals.

As they watched the selection show live on ESPNews, the Delta Devilettes were stunned to know that they would be heading to Los Angles, CA to take on the defending national champions and would have the opportunity to do something no other softball team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference has done, win a game in the NCAA Regionals.

The Delta Devilettes will look to make some noise against the number two team in the nation, still riding the wave of winning the SWAC’s conference championship just over a week ago. "Knowing what has taken place over the past three years, this is a great opportunity for our program and for Mississippi Valley State University," stated MVSU Head Coach, Lee Smith. "We are looking to win a game on the regional level but also to have some fun and enjoy the experience."

The Delta Devilettes are scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday May 20th. Information regarding the tournament can be found online at ncaasports.com.
