SU’s Poret and TSU’s Alexander Lead 2004 SWAC PreSeason Baseball Team

With or without the “E”, a player named Corey has been tabbed preseason Player or Pitcher of the Year in Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball, by the SWAC Baseball Coaches Association.

Southern University LHP pitcher Corey Poret, a 5-11, senior from New Orleans, LA was picked SWAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year while Texas Southern’s LF Cory Alexander, a 5-9 junior from Houston, TX was tabbed the SWAC Preseason Player of the Year.

Divisional champions, Mississippi Valley State and Southern were picked to win theirEastern and Western Division races, respectively.

Southern University and Texas Southern had five players each named to the preseason teams, with three SU players named to the first team. TSU placed two players on the first team. Prairie View A&M landed three (2) players on the squads. Two players each came from Mississippi Valley State (2), Alcorn State (1), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1) and Alabama A&M. Jackson State (1), Alabama State and Grambling State had one player named to the teams.
