"It is a great honor", says Sturgeon

Albert Sturgeon Named FSC Co-Coach of the Year

Nov. 10, 2006

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Not too many coaches can say they had won a "Coach of the Year" award in their first season as skipper, but Albert Sturgeon can. The Miami, FL native was named Co-Coach of the Year at the FSC/Region XIV women's volleyball tournament banquet on Thursday night.

Sturgeon won the award for his leadership and discipline on and off the court throughout a turbulent season as a first year head coach.

"It is a great honor to be name Coach of the Year", says Sturgeon. "The reason why I won the award is even more impressive because I won the award for my off the court actions".

This is Sturgeon first year as Head Coach of the St. Thomas University volleyball team. He served five years as an assistant before becoming the Head Coach.

Sturgeon will share the honor of being named Coach of the Year in the Florida Sun Conference with Savannah College of Art and Design Head Coach Glenn Cox.
