Seahawks Comeback to Defeat Lady Bobcats, 3-2

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.--The St. Thomas University Lady Bobcats was defeated by the Northwood University (Fla.) Seahawks 3-2 (30-27, 30-13, 27-30, 28-30, 16-14) on Wednesday night.

 

St. Thomas dominated the first two games with 5 of the thirty points coming off the serves of freshman Ashley Guerrero in game 1. In game 2, Liz Harney had six straight points when she started service for the Bobcats. Jennifer Prada also had six points in game 2.

 

In the third game the Bobcats began to fall apart with only 11 points off the serve. While the Seahawks had half of their points when they served.

 

Game 4 was much tighter as it was almost point for point between the two teams for the whole game.

 

In the deciding game of game 5 the Bobcats started off strong only allowing 5 points to their 8 before switching sides of the court. Then the Seahawks came on strong getting at least two points from each of their next four servers. By then it was to late as the match was over.

 

The Bobcats are now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference while the Seahawks improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

 

Junior Nicole Hubbard led the team offensively in kills with 16 and defensively with 27 digs. Liz Harney, a junior, led the team in assists with 35.

 

The Lady Bobcats next play in the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Classic on September 22 and 23 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Their next home game is on Tuesday, September 26 against Florida Memorial College at 7pm at Barbara Goleman Senior High.
