The Bees Too Strong for the Lady Bobcats

Sept. 8, 2006

Miami Gardens, Fla. - The St. Thomas Lady Bobcats suffered a tough 3-0 (30-22, 30-15, 31-29) lost on Friday night against No. 9 Savannah College of Art and Design. The Lady Bobcats displayed a gutsy performance, but it was not enough to beat SCAD, which improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The Lady Bobcats' record drops to 1-1

In early moments of game 1 saw both teams exchanged 4-0 runs, but with the score tied at 7-7 SCAD went on a 16-5 run. St. Thomas could only cut the lead to six as they fell 30-22.

Game 2 started similar to game 1, with both teams exchanging points. With the score tied at six, the Bees went on a 6-0 run and never looked back. SCAD's outside hitter

Heather Friend, who led the team with two aces and eight digs, deep powerful serves kept the Lady Bobcats on their back heels, as the Bees scored the last 10 points of the game.

SCAD jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in game 3, but St. Thomas were able to take the lead at 19-18 due to an error by SCAD.

Down by a point, the Lady Bobcats' Cynthia Antomarchy delicate touch tied the game at 25, but three errors by St. Thomas put them behind at 28-25.

St. Thomas's Nicole Hubbard gave the crowd hope when she tied the game at 29-29, but the Bees Frida Sigurdardottir and Cristina Payne sealed the game for the Bees.

Nicole Hubbard led the Lady Bobcats with nine kills, with Kayla Fraguela and Ashlee Guerrero each with seven.

The Lady Bobcats will have to shake off their disappointments quickly as they will travel to Miami Shores to play versus Barry University on Saturday at 7 pm.
