St. Thomas University athletics named Feliks Mats its head men's soccer coach in March 2006. Mats has assisted on three different levels of collegiate soccer and brings a wealth of knowledge about local soccer and the international game.

Mats' most recent coaching experience came as assistant to Jeff Hoerner on the women's soccer team at St. Thomas for the last four seasons. He also served as Director of Coaching and Technical Development for the Miami Lakes Soccer Club.

Mats was the head boys soccer coach at Miami Beach High School in 2003, where he led his team to a regional semifinal. He was a volunteer assistant at NCAA Division II University of Tampa in 2001 and has also coached as a part of the U.S. Olympic Developmental Program.

Mats attended the Indiana University in Bloomington, graduating in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in human development along with a minor in psychology. Mats served as a student assistant for the University of Indiana men's soccer team from 1996-1998, including the 1997 season in which Indiana reached the NCAA Final Four. He received a master's in sports administration from St. Thomas University in 2004.

Mats is a United States Soccer Federation (USSF B License) and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) licensed coach.

Feliks Mats, 32, was born in Riga, Latvia, where he played for the Riga Football School soccer club. He was a member of the Youth Latvian National Players Combine. He now lives in Miramar with his wife Karla.
