Fernandez is in his second season as head coach for the Bobcats. Fernandez served as an assistant from January 2005 to January 2006.

From August 2002 to May 2003, Fernandez was the volunteer assistant women's golf coach for his alma mater Barry University.

Fernandez has numerous experiences as a golf instructor throughout South Florida since 2000 and played professionally on the Tour De Las Americas in 2001, New England Pro Tour in 2001 and the South Florida Tour from 2000-01.

Fernandez also started working toward his Class-A Membership with the PGA of America in 2004 and from January 2006 to May 2006 he served as the tour caddie for LPGA Professional Cristie Kerr. He currently runs a golf academy on Key Biscayne.
