Izquierdo Named NAIA National Pitcher of the Week

March 22, 2006

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Senior Ivan Izquierdo garnered the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week award after leading St. Thomas to a 6-0 win against NCAA Division II opponent Wilmington (Del.) last week.

The righthander pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout, fanning at least one batter in each inning and striking out the side in the first and eighth frames for a total of 16 strikeouts on the day. In Izquierdo's nine innings of work, only three balls left the infield as the Miami, Fla., native improved to 5-2 on the year.

Izquierdo has a 1.93 season earned run average and has 54 strikeouts including 29 in his last two outings.
