Grand Finish for Nuñez, Bobcats

March 11, 2005

Box Score

MIAMI GARDENS, FL- In a high scoring game between two hard hitting schools, St. Thomas University (15-9, 5-4 FSC) prevailed thanks to an 8th inning grand slam by sophomore Aliercy Nuñez. With the score knotted up at nines, Nuñez blasted a 400 foot shot over the right field wall to break the tie. He ended up 3-4 on the night with a team and season high eight RBI, two homeruns, and scored three runs.

The innings that STU did score, the runs were aplenty. They pushed across four of more runs in three out of four innings they scored. The Bobcats got off to a great start by plating four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, and one more in 2nd, but St. Ambrose got back into the game with three in the 3rd and two more in the 4th off of STU starting pitcher Armando Fernandez (5-1), who ended up with a no-decision.

Jr. Luis Diaz came on to pitch relief in the 5th going 3.1 innings, allowing only one hit. He earned the victory to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Pete Rodriguez went one for two with two RBI and three runs scored to back up Nuñez.

The Bobcats continue the three game series tomorrow with a double header against St. Ambrose, starting at 1:00 PM (Homecoming Game, 2005).
