Stony Brook, NY -- - Valerie Maloy, Maria Samilo and Julie Zub will join the Seawolves volleyball program when preseason training gets underway in mid-August, head coach Deb Matejka announced. The trio is part of six newcomers that should see significant time when Stony Brook begins its season August 31 at Buffalo.

Maloy - a freshman outside hitter - is a native of Gibsonia, PA where she attended Pine Richland High School. She was an all-state player three years in a row and was a three-sport athlete.

Samilo is a graduate of Lindenhurst High School where she earned two letters on the volleyball team as a middle blocker. A 6'2" freshman, Samilo helps the Seawolves height go from an average of 5'8" last season to 5'10" this season.

Zub - a 5'10" setter from St. Louis, MO - was a second team all-conference selection as a senior at Ursuline Academy. As a freshman, she was the team's rookie of the year and was also the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior.

Maloy, Samilo and Zub join LaToya Byerly, Dana Montazzoli and Danielle MacKnight as the six newcomers on the 2001 team.

The Seawolves return seven letterwinners to the team, including standout seniors Susanne Westing and Debra Falkenberg.

Matejka hopes the trio will help improve upon Stony Brook's 13-19 record from a season ago.
