Men's And Women's Tennis Earn 5-2 Victories Over Vermont

Burlington, Vt. - The men's and women's tennis teams each recorded a 5-2 victory over Vermont on Saturday afternoon. The men's team (4-6, 2-1 America East) swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Gareth Williams and Egil Anonsen defeated Jon Cooper and Zeljko Knezevic at No. 1, 8-5. The duo of Jean-Francois Robitaille and David Hewitt earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 against Matt Spring and Tom Whittaker. Michael Crooks and James Carpenter finished the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Eric Conway and Ethan Bernstein in the No. 3 spot. In singles action, Crooks, Anonsen, Robitaille and Philippe Amireault all recorded straight-set victories. Crooks won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 over Spring, while Anonsen recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Whittaker in the No. 3 spot. Robitaille earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Griffin Maloney at No. 4, while Amireault was victorious over Conway at No. 6, 6-3, 6-0. Williams, playing at No. 1 singles, and Hewitt, playing in the fifth spot, both lost in three sets. The women's team (4-5, 2-2) also recorded a 5-2 victory. The Seawolves won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. The No. 1 duo of Anne Cathrine Valle and Patricia Gomez recorded an 8-1 victory over Molly Moran and Maika Foukal, while Carmie Zink and Karen Hansen defeated Laura Beth Halter and Alie Taylor at No. 2, 8-4. In singles play, Valle, Lauren Conching, Shean and Zink all recorded victories. Valle defeated Moran, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, while Conching earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Susannah O'Brien at No. 4. No. 5 Shean posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Foukal, and Zink won, 6-4, 6-2 over Taylor at No. 6. Both teams return to action on Tuesday, April 15, when they travel to face Hofstra. |
