Men's and Women's Tennis in Action vs. Quinnipiac and Colgate

March 5, 2005

Hamilton, N.Y. - The men's and women's tennis teams were in action on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y., taking on Colgate and Quinnipiac. The women's team fell to Quinnipiac, 4-3, while the men were victorious by a 5-2 count over Colgate and 7-0 over Quinnipiac.

The men's team was able to pull out the victory against Colgate, winning all three doubles matches to earn the point and taking home victories by Jan Krejci (1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3)) at No. 1, Tal Meir (6-0, 7-6 (11-9)) at No. 2, Michael Crooks (7-6 (5), 6-1) at No. 3 and David Kortum (7-5, 6-1) at No. 4. The Seawolves dominated play against Quinnipiac in the night matches, winning all three doubles and all six singles matches for the 7-0 sweep.

On the women's side, the Seawolves dropped the doubles point versus Quinnipiac and it would turn out to be the deciding point as the teams split the six singles matches. Hana Chovanova won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Sandy Wijeratne won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Victoria Vasile earned a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6, but it was not enough as the Seawolves fell 4-3.

Both the men's and women's team will be back in action at Radford on March 21.
