Women's Soccer Rallies To Earn 2-2 Tie With Cornell

Sept. 5, 2003

Final Stats

Ithaca, N.Y. - Trailing 2-0 late in the game, the Stony Brook women's soccer team scored twice in the final 15 minutes to register a 2-2 double overtime tie against Cornell Friday afternoon. Freshman Suzy's Larson's goal with 4:48 remaining helped Stony Brook improve to 0-1-1.

The Big Red came out firing and got on the board first when Phela Townsend sent a ball along the left side to Shannon Fraser, who tallied from 10 yards out. Cornell kept the pressure on early in the second half, scoring quickly on a fast break from Fraser to Emily Knight at 49:05.

The Seawolves, however, were relentless in the late stages of the contest. Katie Kramer scored on a transition play at 78:46 to bring Stony Brook back within one. The Seawolves kept the pressure on and with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Suzy Larson scored from five yards out on a right cross from Victoria Feliciano to level the game at 2-2.

Cornell was able to put together some solid scoring opportunities in overtime, but was unable to connect. Junior Katie Thomas made three saves in net for the Big Red, while Cindy Bennett stopped two Cornell shots for the Seawolves.

The Seawolves are back in action when they travel to take on La Salle next Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
