Women's Lacrosse Qualifies For America East Playoffs

April 27, 2003

Stony Brook, N.Y. - As the saying goes, two outta three ain't bad and in this case it holds true for the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team. Stony Brook, Vermont and Albany all finished conference play with a 2-3 record with only two postseason spots up for grabs. Five tiebreaker scenarios failed to decide the issue which forced America East officials to hold a draw to determine who earned the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Luck smiled on the Seawolves this afternoon as Vermont and Stony Brook were pulled out of a hat and will now make the trip to Boston to Thursday's semifinal round of the 2003 America East Women's Lacrosse Championship.

By virtue of Vermont's Sunday afternoon win over Stony Brook, the Catamounts will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament while Stony Brook enters as the No. 4 seed. The Seawolves will play defending champ Boston University which won the regular season title with a win over New Hampshire on Sunday. Vermont will play New Hampshire.

The playoff berth is a tremendous accomplishment for the Seawolves who just completed their inaugural women's lacrosse campaign with a 7-9 mark.

The playoffs begin on Thursday, May 1 at Nickerson Field on the campus of Boston University. Stony Brook and BU will face-off at 1 p.m. to be followed by Vermont-New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m.
