April 8, 2006

Box Score

Davis, Calif. - UC Davis scored three unanswered goals late in the second half to rally from a 12-10 deficit and earn a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Stony Brook on Friday afternoon at a rainy Aggie Field. With the loss, the Seawolves dropped to 5-4 on the season, while the Aggies improved to 6-5.

In a game that featured six ties and three lead changes, Stony Brook appeared to take control late in the first half, using a 4-1 surge behind two goals each from Amy Taylor and Jill Gridley to take an 8-5 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the stanza.

Katie McMahon's free position goal with 1:01 left in the half, however, pulled the Aggies within two goals at the break.

The rain began to pour down in the second half as Davis continued to climb back into the game. Tiffany Lee knotted the game at eight goals a piece after finding the back of the net twice in the opening 7:07.

The two teams traded goals two separate times to tie it up again at 10 with 15:38 to play before Kaitlin Leggio netted back-to-back goals just 17 seconds apart to push SB's lead back to two goals at 12-10 with under 10 minutes to play.

The Seawolves offense would dry up as the Aggies began their final comeback, using goals by Lee and McMahon to tie it at 12 before Patrice Clark netted the eventual game-winner on a free position with under five minutes remaining. The Seawolves had a great chance to knot the game shortly after, but Taylor was stopped at point blank range by Aggie goalkeeper Hilary Harkins to help seal the victory.

Leggio finished with a team-best four goals and an assist, while Taylor posted three goals and two assists. Gridley netted three goals, while Carlee Buck added a goal and three assists in the loss. Gina DeNezzo (0-1)came on in the second half to make six stops, but took the loss in net.

Lee netted a game-high five goals while McMahon added three goals and four assists for the Aggies. Harkins stopped six shots to earn the win in net.

The Seawolves are back in action on Sunday when they take on Denver at Eugene, Ore. at 3:00 p.m. EST.
