Swimming and Diving Set Records In Split With Maine

BOWDAIN, Maine - The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving teams split this weekend's meet with the Maine Black Bears, with the men winning 140-75 and the women slipping by a score of 135-108. The men are now 3-1 on the year and the women are 1-3. The women's side featured some exciting record falling action despite the loss. Jessica Claud posted a new school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.43, breaking her own record of 25.59. Kim Harris continues to impress, shaving over a second of the school record on 2:16.3 with her time of 2:15.03 in the 200 backstroke. The men's side featured numerous first place finishes. In the second event of the day, the Seawolves took first and second place in the 400 medley relay. The team of Jason Ferrara, Ryan Krompinger, Ben Abrams and Ted Freeborn came in just in front of the second place team of Yohann Littee, Frank Schursky, Kyle Thornton and Bryan Schliemer. The two teams posted time of 3:50.00 and 3:53.43, respectively. The trio of Kyle Thornton, Ferrara and Littee took first though third in the 200 backstroke as did the triple-threat of Freeborn, James Payne and Dan Berzansky in the 100 free. Billy Fick took top place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:47.42 and Nathan French was first in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.39. French also took first in the 200 butterfly thanks to his 2:02.06. Freeborn claimed first in the 50 free with a time of 22.38 and the duo of Matt Hanson and Fick took the top spots in the 500 free with times of 5:01.74 and 5:10.02. Stony Brook took first and second in the diving competitions on the women's side and the top spot on the men's. Kristi Schubert grabbed first on both the one and three-meter boards with scores of 226.35 and 222.53. Erin Byrnes was just behind her in the second spot of both events, posting a 212.03 on the one and a 218.25 on the three. Pat Marcel continues his first place streak, as he scored a 247.65 on the one and a 255.28 on the three. Erin Bowman won the 1000 free with a time of 11:00.0 and Michelle Miller took the crown in the 200 butterfly, coming in at the 2:13.10 mark. Claud and Sarah Doret totaled seven points for their school by taking second and third in the 200 breaststroke. Claud charted a 2:28.99 and Doret finished with a 2:38.73 in the event. Both teams are back in action Saturday as they welcome Boston University to University Pool. The meet is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start. |
