Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Binghamton, Tops Lafayette, 71-68

Vestal, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's swimming and diving team fell to Binghamton but narrowly defeated Lafayette, 71-68 at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The Seawolves are 6-3 on the season, 2-1 in the conference.

The "A" relay team of Raphy Labour, Jon Sigurosson, Alexei Smirnov and Alex Kissel placed second in the 200-yard medley relay. Raphy Labour followed later in the meet with a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, missing first place by less than a second.

Sigurosson posted first place points for the Seawolves when he won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.91. Yoni Eldor helped Stony Brook further when he touched first in the mixed 50-yard freestyle. Julian Acevado came back strong to win the 1 meter dive with a score of 279.60.

After Labour finished second again in the 200-yard backstroke, Ruslan Safarov won the 200-yard IM in 2:07.90. Stony Brook finished the meet strong with a first and second place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. The "A" and "B" relay touched first in 1:27.57 and 1:29.83, respectively.

Stony Brook returns to action when they travel across the Long Island Sound to face Fairfield on January 27 at 1 pm.
