Since his arrival at Stony Brook in 1979, Coach Dave Alexander has been a consistent presence at University Pool. Alexander started the women's swimming and diving program in '79 and took over head coaching duties of the men's team in 1995. He's experienced many years of success and won his 300th overall meet during 2007-2008 season.

Throughout his tenure, over 100 of his women swimmers have earned All-Metropolitan Conference accolades, four have been named All-Americans and over 20 have competed in the NCAA Championships. Alexander has also totaled seven seasons with ten or more victories with the women's team.

After taking over the men's team, it took Alexander only three seasons to lead them to their first Division I/II MET Conference title. His best overall season with the men's program was in 1998-99, when he guided the Seawolves to a 10-6 mark.

Alexander has been named the Metropolitan Conference's Division I/II Men's Coach of the Year three times (1991, 1996 and 1998), he was named the MET Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by his peers in 1991, and his staff was named the America East Coaching Staff of the year in 2005-06. Alexander has also earned University at Stony Brook Female Athletics Coach of the Year honors on two occasions.

A 1970 graduate of SUNY-New Paltz, Alexander earned his master's degree from Adelphi University in 1974. Alexander has four daughters, Allison, Erin, Kate and Molly, and lives in Smithtown with his wife, Moira.
