Yale and Stony Brook Battle to 0-0 Tie in Men's Soccer
Oct. 31, 2007
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook had a number of scoring chances including a header off the crossbar in the first overtime as the Seawolves tied Yale, 0-0 in non-conference action at LaValle Stadium on Wednesday night. Stony Brook is now 9-6-3 while Yale is 3-6-5. Both teams had scoring chances but the quality ones came in the second half. In the 49th minute Oscar Leis (Ozone Park, N.Y.) took a shot off his left foot that went wide. Yale would have the next two scoring opportunities. Jordan Raybould and Eric Meyer both had chances with Stony Brook keeper Rich Skoblicki (North Patchogue, N.Y.) saving the latter. In the 81st minute off a counter, Leis sent a pass to Michael Palacio (Long Beach, N.Y.) who then passed to Diego Acero (Greenport, N.Y.). Acero's attempt was stolen off a clean tackle from Yale. Skoblicki would then make the save of the game in the 82nd minute. On the right side of the pitch, Andy Shorten had an opportunity that Skoblicki punched over the crossbar. In the first overtime off a corner kick, Palacio's header went off the crossbar and skidded out. Yale would have the next opportunity when Brad Rose's shot went off the left post and over the goal line. Skoblicki finished the game with three saves and Yale keeper Travis Chulick finished with eight. Stony Brook returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Binghamton at 1 pm. Prior to the game on Saturday, seniors Rich Skoblicki, Frank Stagnitta, Dan Salazar, Matt Avellino, Michael Palacio, Yahaya Musa, Mahamadou Simpara and Tamer Mohamed will be honored.
