Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Tie With Sacred Heart

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon at University Field in Stony Brook, N.Y. The Seawolves, who battled back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie the game, moved to 2-5-1 on the year, while the Pioneers stand at 1-2-5.


 
Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead at the 31:47 mark when Carlos Caracas fed Eric Bradley, who fired the ball from the right side into the back of the net.

The Seawolves' had several opportunities early in the second half, but were unable to score until the 64th minute when the team was awarded a penalty kick after Shane Arikian was knocked down by the Sacred Heart goalkeeper on a chance inside the box. Anthony Barberio converted on the kick, shooting the ball into the right corner to tie the game at one.

Both teams had several chances in the extra frames but couldn't convert. At the 97:03 mark, Caracas fired a shot from point blank range, but Stony Brook goalkeeper Dan Ferrin was there for the stop. With three minutes left in the second overtime, Stony Brook's Chong Han took a pass from Arikian, but shot the ball just wide of the goal.

Ferrin made eight saves in the contest for the Seawolves, while Sacred Heart's Matthew Weston turned away eight shots.

The Seawolves return to action on September 30 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to battle Philadelphia at 4:00 p.m.
