Football Announces 2004 Schedule

June 8, 2004

Stony Brook, N.Y. - For the first time since 1990, the Stony Brook football team will take on Hofstra as part of its 10-game 2004 football schedule that was released today. The schedule will also feature Patriot League power Lehigh and seven matchups against Northeast Conference foes.

The Seawolves open up the 2004 schedule against Lehigh on September 4, marking the earliest start to a season in the program's 20-year history. The Mountain Hawks, who notched a win over No. 9 Fordham last fall, posted an 8-3 record and finished second behind Patriot League champ Colgate. Lehigh, who has won eight or more games in each of the last six seasons, finished 2003 ranked 25th in the Sports Network/CSTV and ESPN/USA Today Division I-AA polls.

"Next fall will present the most challenging schedule in our history," said head coach Sam Kornhauser. "With the addition of Lehigh and Hofstra, we will be prepared to face a very demanding conference slate. We are looking forward to an exciting year and can't wait to get started."

Two more road games follow against Wagner (Sept. 18) and defending NEC champ Monmouth (Sept. 25) before the Seawolves return home for a homecoming matchup against Robert Morris on October 2. One week later, Stony Brook plays host to Hofstra in the first meeting between the two teams since 1990.

The Seawolves take to the road again to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 16 and then return home for a pair of games against in-state rival Albany (Oct. 23) and Sacred Heart (Oct. 30). SB hits the road to conclude the NEC slate at Central Connecticut on November 6 before wrapping up the 2004 season with a non-conference matchup against Iona (Nov. 30).

Stony Brook posted a 6-4 mark in 2003 and has a combined 14-6 record over the last two seasons.
