Men's Basketball Takes On First Place Albany In Conference Clash

Stony Brook Take Aim at Conference Leader Albany The Stony Brook men's basketball travels to the the New York state capital to take on America East foe and conference leader Albany on Wednesday, looking to build on their 75-65 win over UMBC on Saturday. Versus The Great Danes Albany controls the all-time series between these two schools, holding a 27-14 edge. The Seawolves dropped the first meeting of the year, falling 63-58 at home on December 28th. Mike Popoko scored 16 points and Bobby Santiago 15, while Mitchell Beauford netted nine points in his first game of the season. Stony Brook fell to the Great Danes, 69-63, last year in Albany. Solomon Bamiro has continued to make an impact in increased minutes this year. In this last three games, Bamiro, who had just played a total of 27 minutes in his entire career, eclipsed that mark in each of his last two appearances. Bamiro saw a career-best 24 minutes of against in the win over UMBC, 29 minutes of action vs. Hartford and played a 33 minutes against Maine.
Over the last three games, Bamiro has averaged 9.7 points, 8.7 boards, shooting 63% (10-16) from the floor, 75% (9-12) from the charity stripe, while dishing four assists and collecting two steals. Bamiro got the starting nod versus UMBC, Bamiro tied a career best in points with 11, while pulling down five boards and handing out two assists and a steal. Recording Stony Brook's second double-double of the year, Bamiro led the Seawolves at Maine, registering career-highs in points (11) and rebounds (12). Bamiro pulled down a nine boards versus Hartford, while netting seven points and dishing out a career-best two assists. Career Night For Mitch . . . Yet Again Mitchell Beauford continued to reset his career bests in points each night he steps on the floor. Beauford poured in a career-best 24 points vs. UMBC, knocking down 10-of-19 shots from the field. Beauford had previously tied his career-best at Harftford after he netted 23 points. Out of His Slump Bobby Santiago returned to a form that he showed early in the year, running the offense versus UMBC, dishing out a career-best seven assists, while scoring 11 points in the Seawolf victory. Santiago netted a team best 16 points and snagged a season-best eight boards against Maine. Santiago went 4 for 8 from downtown and grabbed five offensive rebounds. The Seawolf Five Five Seawolves scored in double figures against UMBC, the first time five Stony Brook players reached the double digit mark in a game since December 11, 2004 in a two-pont win over Navy.
