Indoor Track and Field Competes at Fordham Christmas Invite

Bronx, N.Y. - Stony Brook captured the top two spots in the women's 5,000-meters and the mile to lead the Seawolves at the Fordham Christmas Invitational on Friday at the Vincent T. Lombardi Center. Jackie Nunez and Brian Farrell also won an individual event each to lead SBU.

In the 5,000, Leonora Joy took home top honors in 17:43.8 followed by Laura Hixson in second in 18:51.1. In the mile, Liz Carlson was first in 5:19.7, just in front of Lauren Gengo in second in 5:20.3. Nunez was tops in the 3,000-meters in 10:03.3, winning the race by over 55 seconds. Corinne Leake was fouth in the 800-meters in 2:25.9 for SBU.

On the men's side, Farrell captured the 5,000-meters in 15:46.9. Steve Katz was third in the 500-meters in 1:08.8, while T. Olson was second in the 1,000-meters in 2:37.2. In the shot put, Joe Cardinale finished fourth (14.14 meters) followed by Tom Smith in fifth (14.08 meters).

The Seawolves return to action in the new year when the women's team competes at the URI Invitational on January 9, while the men's team is at the Yale Invite on January 10.
