Saint Louis Wraps Up 2006 Slate with 7-9 Record

A Quick Look Back: Saint Louis went up against No. 17 Richmond, the top team in the Atlantic 10 Conference, in the final weekend of the regular season, and the Spiders (14-4, 7-0) showed just how they earned that billing with a 5-0 win on Sun., Oct. 29 at Crenshaw Field. With the loss, SLU (7-9, 3-4 A-10) fell into a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference, and out of contention for a spot in the four-team A-10 Championship.

Saying Goodbye: A pair of senior Billikens from St. Louis, forward Angela Lombardo and back Michelle Sinclair, completed their careers on Sunday. Lombardo's four goals this season tied for the team lead. She was the third person in her family to represent SLU on the field hockey turf. Sinclair donned the blue and white in 71 games during her four-year career, every contest for the Bills since 2003. She finished the season with one goal and one assist. Junior Kristin Lueders also wrapped up her career as a Billiken on Sunday. For the second straight season, Lueders led the Bills in both points (10) and shots (63).

Back on Track: With back-to-back seven win seasons, the Billikens have achieved the best consecutive seasons since 1990 and 1991. In 1990, Saint Louis won 14 games and followed up that effort with eight wins in 1991.

First Year Coaches: First year field hockey coaches at SLU have done well with only two coaches recording six or fewer wins in their debut season. Marcie Boyer was successful in keeping up that tradition with a 7-9 mark in her inaugural campaign.

The Road Less Traveled: Undoubtedly, the Billikens wish this were the case as all but one of their losses came on the road. SLU, which played just six games at the Anheuser-Busch Center this year, won all but one of those games.

Cage Call: In spite of their offensive struggles, the Billikens had one of the top goalkeepers in the league in Amy Wasserman. The junior finished the season in the A-10's top three in all five goalkeeping categories.

Coaching Staff: Marcie Boyer, who just completed her first season at the helm of the Billiken field hockey program, achieved her first win as a head coach in the season opener against Missouri State. An assistant coach at SLU in 2004, Boyer spent the 2005 season as an assistant at A-10 rival West Chester.

Molly Polly: Freshman forward Molly Boyne (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) was SLU's first substitute off the bench in all 16 games ... her three shots and two shots on goal at No. 17 Richmond ranked second on the team ... had two goals on the season, including the game winner against West Chester.

Green Breen: Freshman keeper Maura Breen (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) saw the first minutes of her collegiate career when she spelled Amy Wasserman for the final 15 minutes against Kent State.

CB Radio: Sophomore back Cathi Brownell (Oconomowoc, Wis./University Lake) earned the first starts of her career against Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Cat Quick: Junior forward Catherine Donovan (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu) had five points (2G, 1A).

Framped-Up: Sophomore back Christine Frampus (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) was one of just three players with a shot against Richmond.

O Henry: Sophomore forward Mary Henry (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) finished second on the team with three goals.

Hello Hibshman: Junior midfielder Ashlea Hibshman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) scored her only goal of the season in the win at Saint Joseph's.

King of the Hill: Sophomore back Meghan Hill (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation) started all 16 matches after playing in only one contest as a walk-on in 2005.

Emerging Emily: Sophomore midfielder Emily Kassab (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) started seven of the Billikens' 16 games ... came off the bench in the Richmond game.

Sarah Smile: Freshman midfielder Sarah Lohmann (Houston, Texas/Duchesne) saw action off the bench in five games.

Lombardo Legacy: Senior forward Angela Lombardo (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) started all 16 matches ... tied for the team lead with four goals.

Good Luck Charm: Freshman forward Eva Luck (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu) started 15 of the Billikens' 16 matches.

Leading Lueders: Junior midfielder Kristin Lueders (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) led the team with 10 points (4G, 2A) ... led the team and ranked second in the A-10 with 3.94 shots per game ... got off a game-high six shots, including four on goal, at Richmond.

Big Mac Can Dish: Sophomore midfielder Jacklyn McGranahan (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) tied for second on the team with eight points (2G, 4A) ... led the Billikens with four assists.

Scintillating Sinclair: Senior back Michelle Sinclair (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu) had a goal and an assist for three points ... started every match in the backfield.

So Sly: Junior back Natalie Slyman (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) saw action in all but three contests this season ...scored her first career goal against Robert Morris.

Wasserman Wall: Junior keeper Amy Wasserman (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) boasteed a 1.61 goals against average ... tallied a total of 11 saves at Richmond.
