Marcie Boyer Named Head Field Hockey Coach

April 5, 2006

St. Louis - Saint Louis director of athletics Cheryl L. Levick today announced that Marcie Boyer has been named the head coach of the Billikens' field hockey program. Boyer, a former assistant at SLU, becomes the ninth head coach in the 31-year history of the program.

"We are excited that Marcie is returning to Saint Louis University," Levick said. "Her technical knowledge, experience in the Atlantic 10 Conference and her familiarity with our current student-athletes will complement her desire to take the field hockey program to the next level."

A native of Dillsburg, Pa., Boyer returns to SLU after a one-year stint as assistant coach at West Chester University. There she assisted in all aspects of the field hockey program and gained first-hand knowledge of the Atlantic 10 Conference, something that will bode well as SLU enters its second season in the A-10 next fall.

Boyer was an assistant at SLU under former head coach Maria Whitehead in 2004. She helped the Billikens to a 5-13 record and was an integral part of recruiting a number of players still on the active roster.

A midfielder at the University of New Hampshire, Boyer not only excelled on the field but also in the classroom as well. A 2003 graduate of UNH, she was a two-time America East Field Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year and a three-time Academic All-American. In 2002, Boyer was a finalist for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which goes to a female student-athlete who demonstrates not only their superior athletic skills, but also for leadership abilities, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.

Boyer was a four-year player for New Hampshire and helped the Wildcats gain a bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2000. After her senior year, she was named a first-team All-American and was tabbed the America East Offensive Player of the Year. A three-time All-Conference selection, Boyer ended her career with 86 points (33G, 20A), which ranks fourth all-time at UNH.

After graduating from UNH, Boyer continued her playing career as a member of the United States Under-23 Junior National Team.

Boyer will officially begin her duties at SLU on April 17.
