ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University sophomore Evan Frederick will play in the U.S. Amateur at famed Oakland Hills course in Bloomington, Mich., on Aug. 19-25. After a record-setting inaugural campaign with the Billikens, Frederick finished second in the qualifying tournament to earn a spont in the starting field.

In the qualifying tournament at Shalimar Pointe in Shalimar, Fla., Frederick was one stroke back after a wild first round. The rising star carded a 69 in the first round despite an up and down day on the greens and taking a one-stroke penalty after a stray tee shot was stuck in a tree.

Frederick was even par on the second day, recording a 72 behind a much more solid and steady short game. While the round was not without adventure, the tournament-tested player regularly recovered from potential disaster to claim the second advancing berth to the U.S. Amateur.
